Add core and alloc over std Lints (#15281)
# Objective

- Fixes #6370
- Closes #6581

## Solution

- Added the following lints to the workspace:
  - `std_instead_of_core`
  - `std_instead_of_alloc`
  - `alloc_instead_of_core`
- Used `cargo +nightly fmt` with [item level use
formatting](https://rust-lang.github.io/rustfmt/?version=v1.6.0&search=#Item%5C%3A)
to split all `use` statements into single items.
- Used `cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets --all-features --fix
--allow-dirty` to _attempt_ to resolve the new linting issues, and
intervened where the lint was unable to resolve the issue automatically
(usually due to needing an `extern crate alloc;` statement in a crate
root).
- Manually removed certain uses of `std` where negative feature gating
prevented `--all-features` from finding the offending uses.
- Used `cargo +nightly fmt` with [crate level use
formatting](https://rust-lang.github.io/rustfmt/?version=v1.6.0&search=#Crate%5C%3A)
to re-merge all `use` statements matching Bevy's previous styling.
- Manually fixed cases where the `fmt` tool could not re-merge `use`
statements due to conditional compilation attributes.

## Testing

- Ran CI locally

## Migration Guide

The MSRV is now 1.81. Please update to this version or higher.

## Notes

- This is a _massive_ change to try and push through, which is why I've
outlined the semi-automatic steps I used to create this PR, in case this
fails and someone else tries again in the future.
- Making this change has no impact on user code, but does mean Bevy
contributors will be warned to use `core` and `alloc` instead of `std`
where possible.
- This lint is a critical first step towards investigating `no_std`
options for Bevy.

Allow to expect (adopted) (#15301)
# Objective

> Rust 1.81 released the #[expect(...)] attribute, which works like
#[allow(...)] but throws a warning if the lint isn't raised. This is
preferred to #[allow(...)] because it tells us when it can be removed.

- Adopts the parts of #15118 that are complete, and updates the branch
so it can be merged.
- There were a few conflicts, let me know if I misjudged any of 'em.

Alice's
[recommendation](https://github.com/bevyengine/bevy/issues/15059#issuecomment-2349263900)
seems well-taken, let's do this crate by crate now that @BD103 has done
the lion's share of this!

(Relates to, but doesn't yet completely finish #15059.)

Crates this _doesn't_ cover:

- bevy_input

plugin_group! macro (adopted) (#14339)
# Objective

- Adopted from #11460.
- Closes #7332.
- The documentation for `DefaultPlugins` and `MinimalPlugins` frequently
goes out of date because it is not .

## Solution

- Create a macro, `plugin_group!`, to automatically create
`PluginGroup`s and document them.

## Testing

- Run `cargo-expand` on the generated code for `DefaultPlugins` and
`MinimalPlugins`.
- Try creating a custom plugin group with the macro.

---

## Showcase

- You can now define custom `PluginGroup`s using the `plugin_group!`
macro.

```rust
plugin_group! {
    /// My really cool plugic group!
    pub struct MyPluginGroup {
        physics:::PhysicsPlugin,
        rendering:::RenderingPlugin,
        ui:::UiPlugin,
    }
}
```

<details>
  <summary>Expanded output</summary>

```rust
/// My really cool plugic group!
///
/// - [`PhysicsPlugin`](physics::PhysicsPlugin)
/// - [`RenderingPlugin`](rendering::RenderingPlugin)
/// - [`UiPlugin`](ui::UiPlugin)
pub struct MyPluginGroup;
impl ::bevy_app::PluginGroup for MyPluginGroup {
    fn build(self) -> ::bevy_app::PluginGroupBuilder {
        let mut group = ::bevy_app::PluginGroupBuilder::start::<Self>();
        {
            const _: () = {
                const fn check_default<T: Default>() {}
                check_default::<physics::PhysicsPlugin>();
            };
            group = group.add(<physics::PhysicsPlugin>::default());
        }
        {
            const _: () = {
                const fn check_default<T: Default>() {}
                check_default::<rendering::RenderingPlugin>();
            };
            group = group.add(<rendering::RenderingPlugin>::default());
        }
        {
            const _: () = {
                const fn check_default<T: Default>() {}
                check_default::<ui::UiPlugin>();
            };
            group = group.add(<ui::UiPlugin>::default());
Remove second generic from .add_before, .add_after (#14285)
# Objective
```rust
// Currently:
builder.add_after::<FooPlugin, _>(BarPlugin);
// After this PR:
builder.add_after::<FooPlugin>(BarPlugin);
```
This removes some weirdness and better parallels the rest of the
`PluginGroupBuilder` API.
## Solution
Define a helper method `type_id_of_val` to use in `.add_before` and
`.add_after` instead of `TypeId::of::<T>` (which requires the plugin
type to be nameable, preventing `impl Plugin` from being used).
## Testing
Ran `cargo run -p ci lints` successfully.
## Migration Guide
Removed second generic from `PluginGroupBuilder` methods: `add_before`
and `add_after`.
```rust
// Before:
DefaultPlugins
    .build()
    .add_before::<WindowPlugin, _>(FooPlugin)
    .add_after::<WindowPlugin, _>(BarPlugin)

// After:
DefaultPlugins
    .build()
    .add_before::<WindowPlugin>(FooPlugin)
    .add_after::<WindowPlugin>(BarPlugin)
```
Added add_group to PluginGroupBuilder (#9530)
# Objective
- Fixes #751
## Solution
- Added `PluginGroupBuilder::add_group`, which accepts an owned `impl
PluginGroup` and adds those plugins to self, following
`PluginGroupBuilder::add`'s replacement rules.
- Split `PluginGroupBuilder::upsert_plugin_state` into two functions,
one of the same name, and
`PluginGroupBuilder::upsert_plugin_entry_state` which takes a
`PluginEntry` and `TypeId` directly. This allows for shared behaviour
between `add` and `add_group`.
- Added 2 unit tests documenting the replacement behaviour in
`PluginGroupBuilder::add_group`.
Use TypeIdMap whenever possible (#11684)
Use `TypeIdMap<T>` instead of `HashMap<TypeId, T>`
- ~~`TypeIdMap` was in `bevy_ecs`. I've kept it there because of
#11478~~
- ~~I haven't swapped `bevy_reflect` over because it doesn't depend on
`bevy_ecs`, but I'd also be happy with moving `TypeIdMap` to
`bevy_utils` and then adding a dependency to that~~
- ~~this is a slight change in the public API of
`DrawFunctionsInternal`, does this need to go in the changelog?~~
## Changelog
- moved `TypeIdMap` to `bevy_utils`
- changed `DrawFunctionsInternal::indices` to `TypeIdMap`
## Migration Guide
- `TypeIdMap` now lives in `bevy_utils`
- `DrawFunctionsInternal::indices` now uses a `TypeIdMap`.
Replace or document ignored doctests (#11040)
# Objective
There are a lot of doctests that are `ignore`d for no documented reason.
And that should be fixed.
## Solution
I searched the bevy repo with the regex ` ```[a-z,]*ignore ` in order to
find all `ignore`d doctests. For each one of the `ignore`d doctests, I
did the following steps:
1. Attempt to remove the `ignored` attribute while still passing the
test. I did this by adding hidden dummy structs and imports.
2. If step 1 doesn't work, attempt to replace the `ignored` attribute
with the `no_run` attribute while still passing the test.
3. If step 2 doesn't work, keep the `ignored` attribute but add
documentation for why the `ignored` attribute was added.
Add track_caller to App::add_plugins (#9174)
# Objective
Currently the panic message if a duplicate plugin is added isn't really
helpful or at least can be made more useful if it includes the location
where the plugin was added a second time.
## Solution
Add `track_caller` to `add_plugins` and it's called dependencies.
8cdd977a12 Unique plugin (#6411)
# Objective
- Make it impossible to add a plugin twice
- This is going to be more a risk for plugins with configurations, to avoid things like `App::new().add_plugins(DefaultPlugins).add_plugin(ImagePlugin::default_nearest())`
1bb751cb8d Plugins own their settings. Rework PluginGroup trait. (#6336)
# Objective
Fixes #5884 #2879
Alternative to #2988 #5885 #2886
"Immutable" Plugin settings are currently represented as normal ECS resources, which are read as part of plugin init. This presents a number of problems:
1. If a user inserts the plugin settings resource after the plugin is initialized, it will be silently ignored (and use the defaults instead)
2. Users can modify the plugin settings resource after the plugin has been initialized. This creates a false sense of control over settings that can no longer be changed.
(1) and (2) are especially problematic and confusing for the `WindowDescriptor` resource, but this is a general problem.
## Solution
Immutable Plugin settings now live on each Plugin struct (ex: `WindowPlugin`). PluginGroups have been reworked to support overriding plugin values. This also removes the need for the `add_plugins_with` api, as the `add_plugins` api can use the builder pattern directly. Settings that can be used at runtime continue to be represented as ECS resources.
Plugins are now configured like this:
```rust
app.add_plugin(AssetPlugin {
  watch_for_changes: true,
  ..default()
})
```
PluginGroups are now configured like this:
```rust
app.add_plugins(DefaultPlugins
  .set(AssetPlugin {
    watch_for_changes: true,
    ..default()
  })
)
```
This is an alternative to #2988, which is similar. But I personally prefer this solution for a couple of reasons:
* ~~#2988 doesn't solve (1)~~ #2988 does solve (1) and will panic in that case. I was wrong!
* This PR directly ties plugin settings to Plugin types in a 1:1 relationship, rather than a loose "setup resource" <-> plugin coupling (where the setup resource is consumed by the first plugin that uses it).
* I'm not a huge fan of overloading the ECS resource concept and implementation for something that has very different use cases and constraints.
## Changelog
- PluginGroups can now be configured directly using the builder pattern. Individual plugin values can be overridden by using `plugin_group.set(SomePlugin {})`, which enables overriding default plugin values.
- `WindowDescriptor` plugin settings have been moved to `WindowPlugin` and `AssetServerSettings` have been moved to `AssetPlugin`
- `app.add_plugins_with` has been replaced by using `add_plugins` with the builder pattern.
## Migration Guide
The `WindowDescriptor` settings have been moved from a resource to `WindowPlugin::window`:
```rust
// Old (Bevy 0.8)
app
  .insert_resource(WindowDescriptor {
    width: 400.0,
    ..default()
  })
  .add_plugins(DefaultPlugins)

// New (Bevy 0.9)
app.add_plugins(DefaultPlugins.set(WindowPlugin {
  window: WindowDescriptor {
    width: 400.0,
    ..default()
  },
  ..default()
}))
```
The `AssetServerSettings` resource has been removed in favor of direct `AssetPlugin` configuration:
```rust
// Old (Bevy 0.8)
app
  .insert_resource(AssetServerSettings {
    watch_for_changes: true,
    ..default()
  })
  .add_plugins(DefaultPlugins)

// New (Bevy 0.9)
app.add_plugins(DefaultPlugins.set(AssetPlugin {
  watch_for_changes: true,
  ..default()
}))
```
`add_plugins_with` has been replaced by `add_plugins` in combination with the builder pattern:
```rust
// Old (Bevy 0.8)
app.add_plugins_with(DefaultPlugins, |group| group.disable::<AssetPlugin>());

// New (Bevy 0.9)
app.add_plugins(DefaultPlugins.build().disable::<AssetPlugin>());
```
e64efd399e Remove the dependency cycles (#5171)
# Objective
- I think our codebase is hit badly by rust-lang/rust-analyzer#11410
- None of our uses of cyclic dependencies are remotely necessary
- Note that these are false positives in rust-analyzer, however it's probably easier for us to work around this
- Note also that I haven't confirmed that this is causing rust-analyzer to not work very well, but it's not a bad guess.
## Solution
- Remove our cyclic dependencies
- Import the trick from #2851 for no-op plugin groups.
f000c2b951 Clippy improvements (#4665)
# Objective
Follow up to my previous MR #3718 to add new clippy warnings to bevy:
- [x] [~~option_if_let_else~~](https://rust-lang.github.io/rust-clippy/master/#option_if_let_else) (reverted)
- [x] [redundant_else](https://rust-lang.github.io/rust-clippy/master/#redundant_else)
- [x] [match_same_arms](https://rust-lang.github.io/rust-clippy/master/#match_same_arms)
- [x] [semicolon_if_nothing_returned](https://rust-lang.github.io/rust-clippy/master/#semicolon_if_nothing_returned)
- [x] [explicit_iter_loop](https://rust-lang.github.io/rust-clippy/master/#explicit_iter_loop)
- [x] [map_flatten](https://rust-lang.github.io/rust-clippy/master/#map_flatten)
There is one commit per clippy warning, and the matching flags are added to the CI execution.
To test the CI execution you may run `cargo run -p ci -- clippy` at the root.
I choose the add the flags in the `ci` tool crate to avoid having them in every `lib.rs` but I guess it could become an issue with suprise warnings coming up after a commit/push
9cd6025ba1 fix re-adding a plugin to a plugin group (#2039)
In a `PluginGroupBuilder`, when adding a plugin that was already in the group (potentially disabled), it was then added twice to the app builder when calling `finish`. As the plugin is kept in an `HashMap`, it is not possible to have the same plugins twice with different configuration.
This PR updates the order of the plugin group so that each plugin is present only once.
You can use `git diff --diff-filter=M eb8f973646476b4a4926ba644a77e2b3a5772159` to find all differences in this PR. The `--diff-filtered=M` filters all files added in the original commit but not in this commit away.
