Remove 's lifetime from WorldQuery::Fetch (#19720)
# Objective

Unblock #18162.

#15396 added the `'s` lifetime to `QueryData::Item` to make it possible
for query items to borrow from the state. The state isn't passed
directly to `QueryData::fetch()`, so it also added the `'s` lifetime to
`WorldQuery::Fetch` so that we can pass the borrows through there.

Unfortunately, having `WorldQuery::Fetch` borrow from the state makes it
impossible to have owned state, because we store the state and the
`Fetch` in the same `struct` during iteration.

## Solution

Undo the change to add the `'s` lifetime to `WorldQuery::Fetch`.

Instead, add a `&'s Self::State` parameter to `QueryData::fetch()` and
`QueryFilter::filter_fetch()` so that borrows from the state can be
passed directly to query items.

ECS: put strings only used for debug behind a feature (#19558)
# Objective

- Many strings in bevy_ecs are created but only used for debug: system
name, component name, ...
- Those strings make a significant part of the final binary and are no
use in a released game

## Solution

- Use [`strings`](https://linux.die.net/man/1/strings) to find ...
strings in a binary
- Try to find where they come from
- Many are made from `type_name::<T>()` and only used in error / debug
messages
- Add a new structure `DebugName` that holds no value if `debug` feature
is disabled
- Replace `core::any::type_name::<T>()` by `DebugName::type_name::<T>()`

## Testing

Measurements were taken without the new feature being enabled by
default, to help with commands

Let query items borrow from query state to avoid needing to clone (#15396)
# Objective

Improve the performance of `FilteredEntity(Ref|Mut)` and
`Entity(Ref|Mut)Except`.

`FilteredEntityRef` needs an `Access<ComponentId>` to determine what
components it can access. There is one stored in the query state, but
query items cannot borrow from the state, so it has to `clone()` the
access for each row. Cloning the access involves memory allocations and
can be expensive.


## Solution

Let query items borrow from their query state.  

Add an `'s` lifetime to `WorldQuery::Item` and `WorldQuery::Fetch`,
similar to the one in `SystemParam`, and provide `&'s Self::State` to
the fetch so that it can borrow from the state.

Unfortunately, there are a few cases where we currently return query
items from temporary query states: the sorted iteration methods create a
temporary state to query the sort keys, and the
`EntityRef::components<Q>()` methods create a temporary state for their
query.

To allow these to continue to work with most `QueryData`
implementations, introduce a new subtrait `ReleaseStateQueryData` that
converts a `QueryItem<'w, 's>` to `QueryItem<'w, 'static>`, and is
implemented for everything except `FilteredEntity(Ref|Mut)` and
`Entity(Ref|Mut)Except`.

`#[derive(QueryData)]` will generate `ReleaseStateQueryData`
implementations that apply when all of the subqueries implement
`ReleaseStateQueryData`.

This PR does not actually change the implementation of
`FilteredEntity(Ref|Mut)` or `Entity(Ref|Mut)Except`! That will be done
as a follow-up PR so that the changes are easier to review. I have
pushed the changes as chescock/bevy#5.

## Testing

I ran performance traces of many_foxes, both against main and against
chescock/bevy#5, both including #15282. These changes do appear to make
generalized animation a bit faster:

## Migration Guide

The `WorldQuery::Item` and `WorldQuery::Fetch` associated types and the
`QueryItem` and `ROQueryItem` type aliases now have an additional
lifetime parameter corresponding to the `'s` lifetime in `Query`. Manual
implementations of `WorldQuery` will need to update the method
signatures to include the new lifetimes. Other uses of the types will
need to be updated to include a lifetime parameter, although it can
usually be passed as `'_`. In particular, `ROQueryItem` is used when
implementing `RenderCommand`.

Before:

Methods on `QueryState` that take `&mut self` may now result in
conflicting borrows if the query items capture the lifetime of the
mutable reference. This affects `get()`, `iter()`, and others. To fix
the errors, first call `QueryState::update_archetypes()`, and then
replace a call `state.foo(world, param)` with
`state.query_manual(world).foo_inner(param)`. Alternately, you may be
able to restructure the code to call `state.query(world)` once and then
make multiple calls using the `Query`.

Before:

Remove ArchetypeComponentId and archetype_component_access (#19143)
# Objective

Remove `ArchetypeComponentId` and `archetype_component_access`.
Following #16885, they are no longer used by the engine, so we can stop
spending time calculating them or space storing them.

## Solution

Remove `ArchetypeComponentId` and everything that touches it.  

The `System::update_archetype_component_access` method no longer needs
to update `archetype_component_access`. We do still need to update query
caches, but we no longer need to do so *before* running the system. We'd
have to touch every caller anyway if we gave the method a better name,
so just remove `System::update_archetype_component_access` and
`SystemParam::new_archetype` entirely, and update the query cache in
`Query::get_param`.

The `Single` and `Populated` params also need their query caches updated
in `SystemParam::validate_param`, so change `validate_param` to take
`&mut Self::State` instead of `&Self::State`.

Nonmax all rows (#19132)
# Objective

Since #18704 is done, we can track the length of unique entity row
collections with only a `u32` and identify an index within that
collection with only a `NonMaxU32`. This leaves an opportunity for
performance improvements.

## Solution

- Use `EntityRow` in sparse sets.
- Change table, entity, and query lengths to be `u32` instead of
`usize`.
- Keep `batching` module `usize` based since that is reused for events,
which may exceed `u32::MAX`.
- Change according `Range<usize>` to `Range<u32>`. This is more
efficient and helps justify safety.
- Change `ArchetypeRow` and `TableRow` to wrap `NonMaxU32` instead of
`u32`.

Justifying `NonMaxU32::new_unchecked` everywhere is predicated on this
safety comment in `Entities::set`: "`location` must be valid for the
entity at `index` or immediately made valid afterwards before handing
control to unknown code." This ensures no entity is in two table rows
for example. That fact is used to argue uniqueness of the entity rows in
each table, archetype, sparse set, query, etc. So if there's no
duplicates, and a maximum total entities of `u32::MAX` none of the
corresponding row ids / indexes can exceed `NonMaxU32`.

Track spawn Tick of entities, offer methods, query data SpawnDetails and query filter Spawned (#19047)
# Objective

In my own project I was encountering the issue to find out which
entities were spawned after applying commands. I began maintaining a
vector of all entities with generational information before and after
applying the command and diffing it. This was awfully complicated though
and has no constant complexity but grows with the number of entities.

## Solution

Looking at `EntyMeta` it seemed obvious to me that struct can track the
tick just as it does with `MaybeLocation`, updated from the same call.
After that it became almost a given to also introduce query data
`SpawnDetails` which offers methods to get the spawn tick and location,
and query filter `Spawned` that filters entities out that were not
spawned since the last run.

## Testing

I expanded a few tests and added new ones, though maybe I forgot a group
of tests that should be extended too. I basically searched `bevy_ecs`
for mentions of `Changed` and `Added` to see where the tests and docs
are.

Benchmarks of spawn/despawn can be found
[here](https://github.com/bevyengine/bevy/pull/19047#issuecomment-2852181374).

## Showcase

From the added docs, systems with equal complexity since the filter is
not archetypal:

Add system ticks to EntityRef/Mut WorldQuery (#19115)
# Objective

- Fixes a subset of https://github.com/bevyengine/bevy/issues/13735 by
making `EntityRef`, `EntityMut` + similar WorldQueries use the system's
change ticks when being created from within a system.
In particular, this means that `entity_ref.get_ref::<T>()` will use the
correct change ticks (the ones from the system), which matches the
behaviour of querying for `Ref<T>` directly in the system parameters.

## Solution

- Implements the solution described by
https://github.com/bevyengine/bevy/issues/13735#issuecomment-2652482918
which is to add change ticks to the `UnsafeEntityCell`

## Testing

- Added a unit test that is close to what users would encounter: before
this PR the `Added`/`Changed` filters on `Ref`s created from `EntityRef`
are incorrect.

Let FilteredEntity(Ref|Mut) receive access when nested. (#18236)
# Objective

Let `FilteredEntityRef` and `FilteredEntityMut` receive access when
nested inside tuples or `#[derive(QueryData)]` types. Make sure to
exclude any access that would conflict with other subqueries!

Fixes #14349

## Solution

Replace `WorldQuery::set_access(state, access)` with a new method,
`QueryData::provide_extra_access(state, access, available_access)`, that
passes both the total available access and the currently used access.
This is called after `WorldQuery::update_component_access()`, so any
access used by ordinary subqueries will be known. `FilteredEntityRef`
and `FilteredEntityMut` can use the combination to determine how much
access they can safely take, while tuples can safely pass those
parameters directly to their subqueries.

This requires a new `Access::remove_conflicting_access()` method that
can be used to remove any access that would conflict with existing
access. Implementing this method was easier by first factoring some
common set manipulation code out of `Access::extend`. I can extract that
refactoring to a separate PR if desired.

Have `FilteredEntity(Ref|Mut)` store `Access` instead of
`FilteredAccess` because they do not need to keep track of the filter.
This was necessary in an early draft but no longer is. I left it in
because it's small and I'm touching that code anyway, but I can extract
it to a separate PR if desired.

Fix unsound query transmutes on queries obtained from Query::as_readonly() (#17973)
# Objective

Fix unsound query transmutes on queries obtained from
`Query::as_readonly()`.

The following compiles, and the call to `transmute_lens()` should panic,
but does not:
```rust
fn bad_system(query: Query<&mut A>) {
    let mut readonly = query.as_readonly();
    let mut lens: QueryLens<&mut A> = readonly.transmute_lens();
    let other_readonly: Query<&A> = query.as_readonly();
    // `lens` and `other_readonly` alias, and are both alive here!
}
```

To make `Query::as_readonly()` zero-cost, we pointer-cast
`&QueryState<D, F>` to `&QueryState<D::ReadOnly, F>`. This means that
the `component_access` for a read-only query's state may include
accesses for the original mutable version, but the `Query` does not have
exclusive access to those components! `transmute` and `join` use that
access to ensure that a join is valid, and will incorrectly allow a
transmute that includes mutable access.

As a bonus, allow `Query::join`s that output `FilteredEntityRef` or
`FilteredEntityMut` to receive access from the `other` query. Currently
they only receive access from `self`.

## Solution

When transmuting or joining from a read-only query, remove any writes
before performing checking that the transmute is valid. For joins, be
sure to handle the case where one input query was the result of
`as_readonly()` but the other has valid mutable access.

This requires identifying read-only queries, so add a
`QueryData::IS_READ_ONLY` associated constant. Note that we only call
`QueryState::as_transmuted_state()` with `NewD: ReadOnlyQueryData`, so
checking for read-only queries is sufficient to check for
`as_transmuted_state()`.

Removing writes requires allocating a new `FilteredAccess`, so only do
so if the query is read-only and the state has writes. Otherwise, the
existing access is correct and we can continue using a reference to it.

Use the new read-only state to call `NewD::set_access`, so that
transmuting to a `FilteredAccessMut` results in a read-only
`FilteredAccessMut`. Otherwise, it would take the original write access,
and then the transmute would panic because it had too much access.

Note that `join` was previously passing `self.component_access` to
`NewD::set_access`. Switching it to `joined_component_access` also
allows a join that outputs `FilteredEntity(Ref|Mut)` to receive access
from `other`. The fact that it didn't do that before seems like an
oversight, so I didn't try to prevent that change.

## Testing

Added unit tests with the unsound transmute and join.

Encapsulate cfg(feature = "track_location") in a type. (#17602)
# Objective

Eliminate the need to write `cfg(feature = "track_location")` every time
one uses an API that may use location tracking. It's verbose, and a
little intimidating. And it requires code outside of `bevy_ecs` that
wants to use location tracking needs to either unconditionally enable
the feature, or include conditional compilation of its own. It would be
good for users to be able to log locations when they are available
without needing to add feature flags to their own crates.

Reduce the number of cases where code compiles with the `track_location`
feature enabled, but not with it disabled, or vice versa. It can be hard
to remember to test it both ways!

Remove the need to store a `None` in `HookContext` when the
`track_location` feature is disabled.

## Solution

Create an `MaybeLocation<T>` type that contains a `T` if the
`track_location` feature is enabled, and is a ZST if it is not. The
overall API is similar to `Option`, but whether the value is `Some` or
`None` is set at compile time and is the same for all values.

Default `T` to `&'static Location<'static>`, since that is the most
common case.

Remove all `cfg(feature = "track_location")` blocks outside of the
implementation of that type, and instead call methods on it.

When `track_location` is disabled, `MaybeLocation` is a ZST and all
methods are `#[inline]` and empty, so they should be entirely removed by
the compiler. But the code will still be visible to the compiler and
checked, so if it compiles with the feature disabled then it should also
compile with it enabled, and vice versa.

## Open Questions

Where should these types live? I put them in `change_detection` because
that's where the existing `MaybeLocation` types were, but we now use
these outside of change detection.

While I believe that the compiler should be able to remove all of these
calls, I have not actually tested anything. If we want to take this
approach, what testing is required to ensure it doesn't impact
performance?

## Migration Guide

Methods like `Ref::changed_by()` that return a `&'static
Location<'static>` will now be available even when the `track_location`
feature is disabled, but they will return a new `MaybeLocation` type.
`MaybeLocation` wraps a `&'static Location<'static>` when the feature is
enabled, and is a ZST when the feature is disabled.

Existing code that needs a `&Location` can call `into_option().unwrap()`
to recover it. Many trait impls are forwarded, so if you only need
`Display` then no changes will be necessary.

If that code was conditionally compiled, you may instead want to use the
methods on `MaybeLocation` to remove the need for conditional
compilation.

Code that constructs a `Ref`, `Mut`, `Res`, or `ResMut` will now need to
provide location information unconditionally. If you are creating them
from existing Bevy types, you can obtain a `MaybeLocation` from methods
like `Table::get_changed_by_slice_for()` or
`ComponentSparseSet::get_with_ticks`. Otherwise, you will need to store
a `MaybeLocation` next to your data and use methods like `as_ref()` or
`as_mut()` to obtain wrapped references.

Harden proc macro path resolution and add integration tests. (#17330)
This pr uses the `extern crate self as` trick to make proc macros behave
the same way inside and outside bevy.

# Objective

- Removes noise introduced by `crate as` in the whole bevy repo.
- Fixes #17004.
- Hardens proc macro path resolution.

## TODO

- [x] `BevyManifest` needs cleanup.
- [x] Cleanup remaining `crate as`.
- [x] Add proper integration tests to the ci.

## Notes

- `cargo-manifest-proc-macros` is written by me and based/inspired by
the old `BevyManifest` implementation and
[`bkchr/proc-macro-crate`](https://github.com/bkchr/proc-macro-crate).
- What do you think about the new integration test machinery I added to
the `ci`?
  More and better integration tests can be added at a later stage.
The goal of these integration tests is to simulate an actual separate
crate that uses bevy. Ideally they would lightly touch all bevy crates.

## Testing

- Needs RA test
- Needs testing from other users
- Others need to run at least `cargo run -p ci integration-test` and
verify that they work.

Isolate component registration (#17671)
# Objective

Progresses #17569. The end goal here is to synchronize component
registration. See the other PR for details for the motivation behind
that.

For this PR specifically, the objective is to decouple `Components` from
`Storages`. What components are registered etc should have nothing to do
with what Storages looks like. Storages should only care about what
entity archetypes have been spawned.

## Solution

Previously, this was used to create sparse sets for relevant components
when those components were registered. Now, we do that when the
component is inserted/spawned.

This PR proposes doing that in `BundleInfo::new`, but there may be a
better place.

## Testing

In theory, this shouldn't have changed any functionality, so no new
tests were created. I'm not aware of any examples that make heavy use of
sparse set components either.

## Migration Guide

- Remove storages from functions where it is no longer needed.
- Note that SparseSets are no longer present for all registered sparse
set components, only those that have been spawned.

Move Item and fetch to QueryData from WorldQuery (#17679)
# Objective

Fixes #17662

## Solution

Moved `Item` and `fetch` from `WorldQuery` to `QueryData`, and adjusted
their implementations accordingly.

Currently, documentation related to `fetch` is written under
`WorldQuery`. It would be more appropriate to move it to the `QueryData`
documentation for clarity.

I am not very experienced with making contributions. If there are any
mistakes or areas for improvement, I would appreciate any suggestions
you may have.

## Migration Guide

The `WorldQuery::Item` type and `WorldQuery::fetch` method have been
moved to `QueryData`, as they were not useful for `QueryFilter` types.

## Draft Release Notes

Bevy's core ECS now supports `no_std` platforms.

In prior versions of Bevy, it was not possible to work with embedded or
niche platforms due to our reliance on the standard library, `std`. This
has blocked a number of novel use-cases for Bevy, such as an embedded
database for IoT devices, or for creating games on retro consoles.

With this release, `bevy_ecs` no longer requires `std`. To use Bevy on a
`no_std` platform, you must disable default features and enable the new
`edge_executor` and `critical-section` features. You may also need to
enable `portable-atomic` and `critical-section` if your platform does
not natively support all atomic types and operations used by Bevy.

the parity between `std` and `no_std`. We look forward to seeing what
kinds of applications are now possible with Bevy!

## Notes

- Creating PR in draft to ensure CI is passing before requesting
reviews.
- This implementation has no support for multithreading in `no_std`,
especially due to `NonSend` being unsound if allowed in multithreading.
The reason is we cannot check the `ThreadId` in `no_std`, so we have no
mechanism to at-runtime determine if access is sound.

Users can now mark a component as `#[component(immutable)]` to prevent
safe mutation of a component while it is attached to an entity:

Additionally, users can use `Component<Mutability = ...>` in trait
bounds to enforce that a component _is_ mutable or _is_ immutable. When
using `Component` as a trait bound without specifying `Mutability`, any
component is applicable. However, methods which only work on mutable or
immutable components are unavailable, since the compiler must be
pessimistic about the type.

## Migration Guide

- When implementing `Component` manually, you must now provide a type
for `Mutability`. The type `Mutable` provides equivalent behaviour to
earlier versions of `Component`:

```
- When working with generic components, you may need to specify that
your generic parameter implements `Component<Mutability = Mutable>`
rather than `Component` if you require mutable access to said component.
- The entity entry API has had to have some changes made to minimise
friction when working with immutable components. Methods which
previously returned a `Mut<T>` will now typically return an
`OccupiedEntry<T>` instead, requiring you to add an `into_mut()` to get
the `Mut<T>` item again.

## Draft Release Notes

Components can now be made immutable while stored within the ECS.

Components are the fundamental unit of data within an ECS, and Bevy
provides a number of ways to work with them that align with Rust's rules
around ownership and borrowing. One part of this is hooks, which allow
for defining custom behavior at key points in a component's lifecycle,
such as addition and removal. However, there is currently no way to
respond to _mutation_ of a component using hooks. The reasons for this
are quite technical, but to summarize, their addition poses a
significant challenge to Bevy's core promises around performance.
Without mutation hooks, it's relatively trivial to modify a component in
such a way that breaks invariants it intends to uphold. For example, you
can use `core::mem::swap` to swap the components of two entities,
bypassing the insertion and removal hooks.

This means the only way to react to this modification is via change
detection in a system, which then begs the question of what happens
_between_ that alteration and the next run of that system?
Alternatively, you could make your component private to prevent
mutation, but now you need to provide commands and a custom `QueryData`
implementation to allow users to interact with your component at all.

Immutable components solve this problem by preventing the creation of an
exclusive reference to the component entirely. Without an exclusive
reference, the only way to modify an immutable component is via removal
or replacement, which is fully captured by component hooks. To make a
component immutable, simply add `#[component(immutable)]`:

When implementing `Component` manually, there is an associated type
`Mutability` which controls this behavior:

With this new tool, creating index components, or caching data on an
entity should be more user friendly, allowing libraries to provide APIs
relying on components and hooks to uphold their invariants.

## Notes

- ~~I've done my best to implement this feature, but I'm not happy with
how reflection has turned out. If any reflection SMEs know a way to
improve this situation I'd greatly appreciate it.~~ There is an
outstanding issue around the fallibility of mutable methods on
`ReflectComponent`, but the DX is largely unchanged from `main` now.
- I've attempted to prevent all safe mutable access to a component that
does not implement `Component<Mutability = Mutable>`, but there may
still be some methods I have missed. Please indicate so and I will
address them, as they are bugs.
- Unsafe is an escape hatch I am _not_ attempting to prevent. Whatever
you do with unsafe is between you and your compiler.
- I am marking this PR as ready, but I suspect it will undergo fairly
major revisions based on SME feedback.
- I've marked this PR as _Uncontroversial_ based on the feature, not the
implementation.

More #[doc(fake_variadic)] goodness (#16108)
This PR adds `#[doc(fake_variadic)]` to that were previously not
supported by rustdoc.

Thanks to an [upstream
contribution](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/132115) by yours
truly, `#[doc(fake_variadic)]` is now supported on impls such as `impl
QueryData for AnyOf<(T, ...)>` 🎉
Requires the latest nightly compiler (2024-10-25) which is already
available on [docs.rs](https://docs.rs/about/builds).

Implement WorldQuery for MainWorld and RenderWorld components (#15745)
# Objective

#15320 is a particularly painful breaking change, and the new
`RenderEntity` in particular is very noisy, with a lot of `let entity =
entity.id()` spam.

## Solution

Implement `WorldQuery`, `QueryData` and `ReadOnlyQueryData` for
`RenderEntity` and `WorldEntity`.

These work the same as the `Entity` impls from a user-facing
perspective: they simply return an owned (copied) `Entity` identifier.
This dramatically reduces noise and eases migration.

Under the hood, these impls defer to the implementations for `&T` for
everything other than the "call .id() for the user" bit, as they involve
read-only access to component data. Doing it this way (as opposed to
implementing a custom fetch, as tried in the first commit) dramatically
reduces the maintenance risk of complex unsafe code outside of
`bevy_ecs`.

To make this easier (and encourage users to do this themselves!), I've
made `ReadFetch` and `WriteFetch` slightly more public: they're no
longer `doc(hidden)`. This is a good change, since trying to vendor the
logic is much worse than just deferring to the existing tested impls.

## Testing

I've run a handful of rendering examples (breakout, alien_cake_addict,
auto_exposure, fog_volumes, box_shadow) and nothing broke.

## Follow-up

We should lint for the uses of `&RenderEntity` and `&MainEntity` in
queries: this is just less nice for no reason.

Reduce memory usage in component fetches and change detection filters (#15283)

## Solution

Same as #6396, we use a compile-time checked `StorageSwitch` union type
to select the fetch data based on the component's storage type, saving
>= 8 bytes per component fetch in a given query.

Note: We forego the Query iteration change as it exists in a slightly
different form now on main.

## Testing

- All current tests pass locally.

Add core and alloc over std Lints (#15281)

## Solution

- Added the following lints to the workspace:
  - `std_instead_of_core`
  - `std_instead_of_alloc`
  - `alloc_instead_of_core`
- Used `cargo +nightly fmt` with [item level use
formatting](https://rust-lang.github.io/rustfmt/?version=v1.6.0&search=#Item%5C%3A)
to split all `use` statements into single items.
- Used `cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets --all-features --fix
--allow-dirty` to _attempt_ to resolve the new linting issues, and
intervened where the lint was unable to resolve the issue automatically
(usually due to needing an `extern crate alloc;` statement in a crate
root).
- Manually removed certain uses of `std` where negative feature gating
prevented `--all-features` from finding the offending uses.
- Used `cargo +nightly fmt` with [crate level use
formatting](https://rust-lang.github.io/rustfmt/?version=v1.6.0&search=#Crate%5C%3A)
to re-merge all `use` statements matching Bevy's previous styling.
- Manually fixed cases where the `fmt` tool could not re-merge `use`
statements due to conditional compilation attributes.

## Testing

- Ran CI locally

The MSRV is now 1.81. Please update to this version or higher.

## Notes

- This is a _massive_ change to try and push through, which is why I've
outlined the semi-automatic steps I used to create this PR, in case this
fails and someone else tries again in the future.
- Making this change has no impact on user code, but does mean Bevy
contributors will be warned to use `core` and `alloc` instead of `std`
where possible.
- This lint is a critical first step towards investigating `no_std`
options for Bevy.

Add EntityRefExcept and EntityMutExcept world queries, in preparation for generalized animation. (#15207)
This commit adds two new `WorldQuery` types: `EntityRefExcept` and
`EntityMutExcept`. These types work just like `EntityRef` and
`EntityMut`, but they prevent access to a statically-specified list of
components. For example, `EntityMutExcept<(AnimationPlayer,
Handle<AnimationGraph>)>` provides mutable access to all components
except for `AnimationPlayer` and `Handle<AnimationGraph>`. These types
are useful when you need to be able to process arbitrary queries while
iterating over the results of another `EntityMut` query.

The motivating use case is *generalized animation*, which is an upcoming
feature that allows animation of any component property, not just
rotation, translation, scaling, or morph weights. To implement this, we
must change the current `AnyOf<(&mut Transform, &mut MorphWeights)>` to
instead be `EntityMutExcept<(AnimationPlayer, Handle<AnimationGraph>)>`.
It's possible to use `FilteredEntityMut` in conjunction with a
dynamically-generated system instead, but `FilteredEntityMut` isn't
optimized for the use case of a large number of allowed components
coupled with a small set of disallowed components. No amount of
optimization of `FilteredEntityMut` produced acceptable performance on
the `many_foxes` benchmark. `Query<EntityMut, Without<AnimationPlayer>>`
will not suffice either, as it's legal and idiomatic for an
`AnimationTarget` and an `AnimationPlayer` to coexist on the same
entity.

An alternate proposal was to implement a somewhat-more-general
`Except<Q, CL>` feature, where Q is a `WorldQuery` and CL is a
`ComponentList`. I wasn't able to implement that proposal in a
reasonable way, because of the fact that methods like
`EntityMut::get_mut` and `EntityRef::get` are inherent methods instead
of methods on `WorldQuery`, and therefore there was no way to delegate
methods like `get` and `get_mut` to the inner query in a generic way.
Refactoring those methods into a trait would probably be possible.
However, I didn't see a use case for a hypothetical `Except` with
arbitrary queries: `Query<Except<(&Transform, &Visibility),
Visibility>>` would just be a complicated equivalent to
`Query<&Transform>`, for instance. So, out of a desire for simplicity, I
omitted a generic `Except` mechanism.

I've tested the performance of generalized animation on `many_foxes` and
found that, with this patch, `animate_targets` has a 7.4% slowdown over
`main`. With `FilteredEntityMut` optimized to use `Arc<Access>`, the
slowdown is 75.6%, due to contention on the reference count. Without
`Arc<Access>`, the slowdown is even worse, over 2x.

## Testing

New tests have been added that check that `EntityRefExcept` and
`EntityMutExcept` allow and disallow access to components properly and
that the query engine can correctly reject conflicting queries involving
those types.

A Tracy profile of `many_foxes` with 10,000 foxes showing generalized
animation using `FilteredEntityMut` (red) vs. main (yellow) is as

## Solution
The PR consists of multiple steps:

1) For the component data: create a new data-structure that's similar to
`BlobVec` but doesn't store `len` & `capacity` inside of it: "BlobArray"
(name suggestions welcome)
2) For the `Tick` data: create a new data-structure that's similar to
`ThinSlicePtr` but supports dynamic reallocation: "ThinArrayPtr" (name
suggestions welcome)
3) Create a new data-structure that's very similar to `Column` that
doesn't store `len` & `capacity` inside of it: "ThinColumn"
4) Adjust the `Table` implementation to use `ThinColumn` instead of
`Column`

The result is that only one set of `len` & `capacity` is stored in
`Table`, in `Table::entities`

### Notes Regarding Performance
Apart from shaving off some excess memory in `Table`, the changes have
also brought noteworthy performance improvements:
The previous implementation relied on `Vec::reserve` &
`BlobVec::reserve`, but that redundantly repeated the same if statement
(`capacity` == `len`). Now that check could be made at the `Table` level
because the capacity and length of all the columns are synchronized;
saving N branches per allocation. The result is a respectable
performance improvement per every `Table::reserve` (and subsequently
`Table::allocate`) call.

I'm hesitant to give exact numbers because I don't have a lot of
experience in profiling and benchmarking, but these are the results I
got so far:

still achieve the same things in `ThinColumn` as you did in `Column`.
For example, instead of calling `Column::get_added_tick`, you'd call
`ThinColumn::get_added_ticks_slice` and index it to get the specific
added tick.

- Add a way for reborrowing queries, that is going from a `&'a mut
Query<'w, 's, D, F>` to a `Query<'a, 's, D, F>`:
- this is safe because the original query will be borrowed while the new
query exists and thus no aliased access can happen;
- it's basically the equivalent of going from `&'short mut &'long mut T`
to `&'short mut T` the the compiler automatically implements.
- Add a way for getting the remainder of a query iterator:
- this is interesting also because the original iterator keeps its
position, which was not possible before;
- this in turn requires a way to reborrow query fetches, which I had to
add to `WorldQuery`.

## Showcase

- You can now reborrow a `Query`, getting an equivalent `Query` with a
shorter lifetime. Previously this was possible for read-only queries by
using `Query::to_readonly`, now it's possible for mutable queries too;
- You can now separately iterate over the remainder of `QueryIter`.

## Migration Guide

- `WorldQuery` now has an additional `shrink_fetch` method you have to
implement if you were implementing `WorldQuery` manually.

Use #[doc(fake_variadic)] to improve docs readability (#14703)
# Objective

- Fixes #14697

## Solution

This PR modifies the existing `all_tuples!` macro to optionally accept a
`#[doc(fake_variadic)]` attribute in its input. If the attribute is
present, each invocation of the impl macro gets the correct attributes
(i.e. the first impl receives `#[doc(fake_variadic)]` while the other
impls are hidden using `#[doc(hidden)]`.
Impls for the empty tuple (unit type) are left untouched (that's what
the [standard
library](https://doc.rust-lang.org/std/cmp/trait.PartialEq.html#impl-PartialEq-for-())
and
[serde](https://docs.rs/serde/latest/serde/trait.Serialize.html#impl-Serialize-for-())
do).

To work around https://github.com/rust-lang/cargo/issues/8811 and to get
impls on re-exports to correctly show up as variadic, `--cfg docsrs_dep`
is passed when building the docs for the toplevel `bevy` crate.

`#[doc(fake_variadic)]` only works on tuples and fn pointers, so impls
for structs like `AnyOf<(T1, T2, ..., Tn)>` are unchanged.

## Testing

I built the docs locally using `RUSTDOCFLAGS='--cfg docsrs'
RUSTFLAGS='--cfg docsrs_dep' cargo +nightly doc --no-deps --workspace`
and checked the documentation page of a trait both in its original crate
and the re-exported version in `bevy`.
The description should correctly mention for how many tuple items the
trait is implemented.

I added `rustc-args` for docs.rs to the `bevy` crate, I hope there
aren't any other notable crates that re-export `#[doc(fake_variadic)]`
traits.

Track source location in change detection (#14034)
# Objective

- Make it possible to know *what* changed your component or resource.
- Common need when debugging, when you want to know the last code
location that mutated a value in the ECS.
- This feature would be very useful for the editor alongside system
stepping.

## Solution

- Adds the caller location to column data.
- Mutations now `track_caller` all the way up to the public API.
- Commands that invoke these functions immediately call
`Location::caller`, and pass this into the functions, instead of the
functions themselves attempting to get the caller. This would not work
for commands which are deferred, as the commands are executed by the
scheduler, not the user's code.

## Testing

- The `component_change_detection` example now shows where the component
was mutated:

Add FilteredAccess::empty and simplify the implementatin of update_component_access for AnyOf/Or (#14352)
# Objective

- The implementation of `update_component_access` for `AnyOf`/`Or` is
kinda weird due to special casing the first filter, let's simplify it;
- Fundamentally we want to fold/reduce the various filters using an OR
operation, however in order to do a proper fold we need a neutral
element for the initial accumulator, which for OR is FALSE. However we
didn't have a way to create a `FilteredAccess` value corresponding to
FALSE and thus the only option was reducing, which special cases the
first element as being the initial accumulator.

This is an alternative to https://github.com/bevyengine/bevy/pull/14026

## Solution

- Introduce `FilteredAccess::empty` as a way to create a
`FilteredAccess` corresponding to the logical proposition FALSE;
- Use it as the initial accumulator for the above operations, allowing
to handle all the elements to fold in the same way.

## Migration Guide

- The behaviour of `AnyOf<()>` and `Or<()>` has been changed to match no
archetypes rather than all archetypes to naturally match the
corresponding logical operation. Consider replacing them with `()`
instead.

Fix error in AnyOf (#14027)
# Objective

- Fixes a correctness error introduced in
https://github.com/bevyengine/bevy/pull/14013 ...

## Solution

I've been playing around a lot of with the access code and I realized
that I introduced a soundness error when trying to simplify the code.
When we have a `Or<(With<A>, With<B>)>` filter, we cannot call
```
  let mut intermediate = FilteredAccess::default();
  $name::update_component_access($name, &mut intermediate);
  _new_access.append_or(&intermediate);
```
because that's just equivalent to adding the new components as `Or`
clauses.
For example if the existing `filter_sets` was `vec![With<C>]`, we would
then get `vec![With<C>, With<A>, With<B>]` which translates to `A or B
or C`.
Instead what we want is `(A and B) or (A and C)`, so we need to have
each new OR clause compose with the existing access like so:

let mut intermediate = _access.clone();
// if we previously had a With<C> in the filter_set, this will become `With<C> AND With<A>`
$name::update_component_access($name, &mut intermediate);
_new_access.append_or(&intermediate);
```

This reverts commit 5cfb063d4a.

- This PR broke bevy-trait-query, which needs to be able to write a
resource in init_state. See #13798 for more details.
- Note this doesn't fix everything as transmutes for bevy-trait-query
will still be broken,. But the current usage in that crate is UB, so we
need to find another solution.

constrain WorldQuery::init_state argument to ComponentInitializer (#13442)
# Objective

In #13343, `WorldQuery::get_state` was constrained from `&World` as the
argument to `&Components`, but `WorldQuery::init_state` hasn't yet been
changed from `&mut World` to match.

Fixes #13358

## Solution

Create a wrapper around `&mut Components` and `&mut Storages` that can
be obtained from `&mut World` with a `component_initializer` method.
This new `ComponentInitializer` re-exposes the API on `&mut Components`
minus the `&mut Storages` parameter where it was present. For the
`&Components` API, it simply derefs to its `components` field.

The `World::component_initializer` method.
The `ComponentInitializer` struct that re-exposes `Components` API.
### Changed
`WorldQuery::init_state` now takes `&mut ComponentInitializer` instead
of `&mut World`.

## Future Work

- Currently, hints are not supported in this diagnostic. Ideally,
suggestions like _"consider using ..."_ would be in a hint rather than a
note, but that is the best option for now.
- System chaining and other `all_tuples!(...)`-based traits have bad
error messages due to the slightly different error message format.

Implement WorldQuery and QueryData on Mut. (#13338)
# Objective

Provides a `WorldQuery` implementation on `Mut<T>` that forwards to the
implementation on `&mut T`, and give users a way to opt-in to change
detection in auto-generated `QueryData::ReadOnly` types.

Fixes #13329.

## Solution

I implemented `WorldQuery` on `Mut<'w, T>` as a forwarding
implementation to `&mut T`, setting the `QueryData::ReadOnly` associated
type to `Ref<'w, T>`. This provides users the ability to explicitly
opt-in to change detection in the read-only forms of queries.

## Testing

A documentation test was added to `Mut` showcasing the new
functionality.

constrain WorldQuery::get_state to only use &Components (#13343)
# Objective

Passing `&World` in the `WorldQuery::get_state` method is unnecessary,
as all implementations of this method in the engine either only access
`Components` in `&World`, or do nothing with it.
It can introduce UB by necessitating the creation of a `&World` from a
`UnsafeWorldCell`.
This currently happens in `Query::transmute_lens`, which obtains a
`&World` from the internal `UnsafeWorldCell` solely to pass to
`get_state`. `Query::join` suffers from the same issue.
Other cases of UB come from allowing implementors of `WorldQuery` to
freely access `&World`, like in the `bevy-trait-query` crate, where a
[reference to a resource is
obtained](0c0e7dd646/src/lib.rs (L445))
inside of
[`get_state`](0c0e7dd646/src/one.rs (L245)),
potentially aliasing with a `ResMut` parameter in the same system.

`WorldQuery::init_state` currently requires `&mut World`, which doesn't
suffer from these issues.
But that too can be changed to receive a wrapper around `&mut
Components` and `&mut Storages` for consistency in a follow-up PR.

## Solution

Replace the `&World` parameter in `get_state` with `&Components`.

## Changelog

 `WorldQuery::get_state` now takes `&Components` instead of `&World`.
The `transmute`, `transmute_filtered`, `join` and `join_filtered`
methods on `QueryState` now similarly take `&Components` instead of
`&World`.

## Migration Guide

Users of `WorldQuery::get_state` or `transmute`, `transmute_filtered`,
`join` and `join_filtered` methods on `QueryState` now need to pass
`&Components` instead of `&World`.
`&Components` can be trivially obtained from either `components` method
on `&World` or `UnsafeWorldCell`.
For implementors of `WorldQuery::get_state` that were accessing more
than the `Components` inside `&World` and its methods, this is no longer
allowed.

Add QueryState::contains, document complexity, and make as_nop pub(crate) (#12776)

Fixes #12752. Fixes #12750. Document the runtime complexity of all of
the `O(1)` operations on the individual APIs.

## Solution

  * Mirror `Query::contains` onto `QueryState::contains`
  * Make `QueryState::as_nop` pub(crate)
  * Make `NopWorldQuery` pub(crate)
  * Document all of the O(1) operations on Query and QueryState.

Add Debug to Has Query type (#12722)
# Objective

Pretty minor change to add `Debug` to `Has`.

This is helpful for users (Like me) who have the
[`missing_debug_implementations`](https://doc.rust-lang.org/stable/nightly-rustc/rustc_lint/builtin/static.MISSING_DEBUG_IMPLEMENTATIONS.html)
lint turned on.

Simple `#[derive(Debug)]`
